We can classify animals according to the type of food they eat. There are three basic classications: herbivores, carnivores and omnivores.

• Herbivores eat plants. Cows and horses are herbivores.
• Carnivores eat the flesh of other animals. Examples of carnivores are lions, wolves and dogs.
• Omnivores eat both meat and plants.For example, bears, chimpanzees and humans are all omnivores.

Like people, animals have to digest the food that they eat. The digestive system is responsible for digestion.
